Admission for International Students

The following is a description of graduate school’s admission. For the admission information of undergraduate school, please refer to the Japanese website.

Graduate Programs

1. Master’s Program

(A) International Applicants Receiving Scholarships

Since most of the graduate school lectures will be provided in a mix of English and Japanese (English-only courses are not available), all international students are required to have basic Japanese language skills.
The total duration of the master’s course for international students receiving scholarships is three years. International students are eligible to learn Japanese language as research students in their first year in preparation for the master’s course exam, then must take an entrance exam for the Graduate School of KNU. The application guidelines and procedure are below.

(b) Admission procedure

Please follow the admission procedure in accordance with the guidelines, which are available to download.

Deadline for application: 30th September

Applications must be received by the KNU through mail by the deadline. All application documents can be sent by e-mail at the address below.

* Note that documents brought directly to the university shall not be accepted on Saturdays after 12:20 p.m., nor on Sundays or national holidays.

(B) Privately Financed International Applicants (Master’s Program)

English-only courses are not available at the Graduate School of KNU; therefore, all international applicants must have Japanese language skills. It is desirable that applicants who apply for the master’s program be at the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). If you do not have any Japanese language knowledge, it is required that you apply as a research student first (as stipulated in [A] above) and take the examination for the master’s course after a year.

April Admissions

Qualifications for applicants are as follows.

  1. Applicants shall have a master’s degree or should be scheduled to acquire such a degree by the end of March in every year.
  2. Applicants who are accredited master degree of graduate school of KNU and/or have more knowledge than a master’s degree.

October Admissions

  1. Applicants shall have a master’s degree or should be scheduled to acquire such a degree by the end of September in every year.
  2. Applicants who are accredited master degree of graduate school of KNU and/or have more knowledge than a master’s degree.

Note: Applicants who fall under [2] above are recommended to contact the Academic Office at KNU prior to sending their application.

Undergraduate Programs

As classes are conducted in Japanese, students must be sufficiently proficient in Japanese.

Special Bachelor’s Degree Course for International Students

We welcome international students to pursue a bachelor’s degree and prepare for the following special course for international students who have not yet acquired an academic degree or training in nutrition science.

Examinations

An examination (written exam and interview) will be conducted in Japanese; therefore, we expect that prospective students will have at least N2-level Japanese speaking/writing/reading ability.
